Ways to Give

To help the NDMCA Foundation's Vision Campaign succeed, we need your support. With a $100,000 goal through 2018, we are asking everyone in the trucking industry to consider a one-time donation to the NDMCA Foundation's Founders Club to provide a solid financial footing for the future of the NDMCA Foundation.

Every individual that donates $250 - $499 and company that donates $1,000 - $2,499 for the Founders Club will be recognized for their contribution on a Donor Wall at the NDMCA Office as well as in Rolling Along, or they can remain anonymous if they wish.

Every individual that donates $500 or more and company that donates $2,500 or more will become a Founders Club Captain and recognized for their contribution on a Donor Wall at the NDMCA Office as well as in Rolling Along, or they can remain anonymous if they wish.

Donar companies or individuals who wish to give a larger gift to establish a named scholarship or for some other purpose should contact NDMCA at 701-223-2700.

North Dakota Tax Credit

North Dakota individual taxpayers and North Dakota business are eligible for the North Dakota Charitable Giving Tax Credit, for gifts to a qualified North Dakota nonprofit organization's endowment fund, such as the NDMCA Foundation.

North Dakota Charitable Giving Tax Credit allows for a 40% tax CREDIT for individuals and business who give qualifying gifts to a North Dakota charity. The credit may be carried forward for three additional tax years if it cannot all be used in one year.

For gifts from individuals, the credit is equal to 40 percent of the contribution, up to a maximum credit of $10,000 (or $20,000, if married filing a joint return). To qualify, the contribution(s) to a particular endowment fund must total at least $5,000 for the tax year. For more information click here.

For gifts from business (other than a sole proprietorship), the credit is equal to 40% of the contribution, up to a maximum credit of $10,000. For more information click here.

These tax benefits are in addition to any federal tax benefits.

This unique tax credit applies to cash gifts or to planned or deferred gifts (e.g., charitable trusts, gift annuities, life insurance policies, etc.) to a qualified ND charitable nonprofit or a qualified ND endowment.

Because the NDMCA Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, your gift is tax-deductible.

Although gifts of cash are most common, there are various and equally important ways to support the Foundation in its educational efforts. The NDMCA Foundation greatly appreciates all gifts, regardless of size.  For more information on how to make a donation to the Foundation, or to request a scholarship application, please call 701-223-2700.

One of the more common ways of supporting the Foundation is in the way of gifts in memory of or in honor of an individual.  These contributions are recorded in the permanent record of the Foundation and are recognized NDMCA Foundation publications.  Immediate relatives of those memorialized with the gift are notified of all donations.

Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer. Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock, and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may also save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock.

Deferred or planned gifts enable the Foundation to plan for the future because they will be realized at some later date. You can make a planned gift by naming the NDMCA Foundation as a beneficiary of a paid-up life insurance policy. A gift of life insurance entitles you to a tax deduction equal to your cost basis in the policy or its replacement cost, whichever is less. You can make a planned gift to the Foundation and receive an income for life through the establishment of a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust that names the Foundation as a beneficiary. Your attorney can advise you on the various types of charitable trusts and the estate tax benefits of each, and assist you in setting up a planned gift that is tailored to your personal needs. You may also want to talk with your attorney or financial adviser about the tax benefits of naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement plan.

One of the easiest ways to make a gift to the NDMCA Foundation is by leaving the Foundation a bequest in your will. There are several ways you can do this. You can 1) give a specific amount of money to the Foundation; 2) give a specific item of property to the Foundation or 3) give a specific percentage of the residue of your estate to the Foundation (the residue of your estate is that which is left over after all specific gifts have been made, whether charitable or non-charitable).

Increase your donation with employer matching funds. Many employers will match the personal donations of its employees and associates. The program can be in conjunction with a workplace contribution campaign.
