Supply Chain Legal Seminar: Contracts, Regulatory & Legal Issues

Understanding transportation contracts, as well as how transportation laws can affect a particular contract, can be a daunting task.  This seminar will provide an overview of differing transportation contracts including shipper-carrier, shipper-broker and broker-carrier contracts.  We will discuss fundamental concepts and commonly found provisions in transportation contracts, as well as not-so-common terms to be aware of as you review and negotiate a contract.  You will also learn how transportation laws and regulations can affect your contractual relationships and how to address those issues in your contracts.  This overview will provide you with the confidence necessary to understand transportation contracts and help you identify situations when you need to involve counsel.

Minimizing Employment Liabilities in the Trucking Industry Seminar

A transportation provider frequently employs people flung all over the country, many moving from state to state every day.  The employer faces compliance with a myriad of federal, state, and, potentially, local laws relating to minimum wages, personal time (paid and unpaid), anti-discrimination, wage protection, hiring and firing best practices, drug testing, workers compensation, unemployment and many other regulations.  Pile on issues relating to the distinction between employees and independent contractors, and even the most diligent office manager can find it difficult to keep up. This high level overview will give you some perspective on when to involve other professionals to tackle the thorny issues and when your team can competently administer the issues.  Be ready to ask questions.
